Anti-fracking meeting to be held

Supported by UNITE, NE Lancashire Trades Council and Friends of the Earth the meeting will be held under the title: “Does East Lancashire Want Fracking?”.

KELFF says this is an important meeting as the British Geological Survey has identified most of East Lancashire for fracking shale gas and coal bed methane and Cuadrilla has stated the M65 corridor from Blackburn through to Colne has the potential to become a major shale gas resource.

Furthermore, the Environment Agency has issued permits to Cuadrilla to frack on the Fylde although Lancashire County Council decided this week not to grant the company permission to explore and, later, exploit shale gas at two sites in this part of West Lancashire.

A representative from Cuadrilla has been invited to speakat the meeting along with Helen Rimmer (Friends of the Earth), Tina Rothery (Fylde Anti-Fracking Campaigner), Fran Sullivan (UNITE representative on renewable alternatives to fracking and jobs), Katrina Lawrie (anti-fracking activist) and Beana Jones (Burnley Student Eco Campaigner).
