All the fun of the Wakes Fair heads to Towneley

The Burnley Wakes Fun Fair, which begins today, has been been granted a new site at the 11th hour following heavy rain last week, which left the regular site at Fulledge Recreation Ground waterlogged.

Instead, organisers will be making use of the car park just inside the Todmorden Road entrance of Towneley Park and insist they will be presenting a full complement of attractions including a new ride for 2016.

Billy Hill from The Showmen’s Guild said: “We did a site visit to Fulledge last weekend and conditions there were just too wet underfoot to make things viable.

“Fortunately, the alternative site at Towneley Park, which we last used in 2012, is only a short distance away and benefits from both hardstanding and better car parking.”

The new ride, the only one of its kind in the UK, appearing in Burnley for the very first time is the Xcelerator.

Those that like heights will be pleased to hear that the Vertigo is back for 2016. Standing 130ft tall, this giant spinning propellor ride was one of the highlights of last year’s fair. Other attractions confirmed on this occasion include the Orbiter, Waltzer, Snow Jet, Ice Maze, Twister, Mexican Wave, Fun House, Family Coaster and one of the UK’s largest travelling Ghost Trains.

There will also be a good selection of children’s attractions, fairground games and food.
