The discount food retailer is preparing plans which would see a second store built on land off Todmorden Road, next to Holmes Street, creating around 40 new jobs.

A public exhibition is being held today (Tuesday) for residents to find out more about the proposals, which include a 90-space car park. The consultation event takes place between 3 and 7pm at the Salvation Army Community Centre in Richard Street.

Members of the project team will be there to answer questions and to receive local feedback on the initial plans.

A statement on the Aldi website read: “The proposals have been carefully developed to ensure that its design sits comfortably within the site and contributes positively to the appearance of the surrounding area.

“The proposed Aldi store would be single storey in height and would include a combination of materials including crisp white render and full height shopfront glazing together with strip ribbon glazing along the main sales elevation to create a modern and contemporary appearance.

“The layout would also feature new landscaping around the boundaries to provide an attractive setting for the store.”
