The family of Burnley teenager Luke Mason – seriously injured in a road accident – have said he remains very poorly.
Blessed Trinity pupil Luke (13) was airlifted to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital after he was involved in a collision with a car in Lyndurst Road on Wednesday, just yards from his home in Mitella Street.
Dad Ben told the Burnley Express that doctors at the hospital had removed the sedation medication from Luke but were still waiting to remove a breathing tube, which may happen later today (Sunday).
Ben said: “Luke improved very slightly on Saturday but he is still very poorly.
“The doctors have said that a large part of Luke’s brain has been very seriously damaged and if he does pull through he will be left severely disabled. All we can do is keep hoping and praying.
“We have had a lot of support from friends and family. We are just sticking together because that’s all we can do at the moment.”
Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident which happened shortly before 8am on Wednesday. Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log number 0174 of February 11th.
