Later in the day, a crew was called to Ainsdale Drive in the Ashton area of Preston after reports of a dog with its head stuck in railings were raised with the service shortly after 2.30pm.

On arrival the crew from Penwortham fire station found a dog was jammed into the railings around Ashton Primary School. Firefighters had to release the dog using Holatro spreaders so the crew could bend the railings. A spokesman for LFRS said the rescue operation took approximately 12 minutes.

And if two animal rescues wasn't enough for the service, a third report came in from Fleetwood just before 4pm about a seagull being trapped in a wire on the roof of a property on Manor Road in the town.
