A curry good night for the homeless

A curry night raised a hot amount of cash for a Burnley homeless charity.

More than 100 supporters raised £1,100 for Emmaus Burnley during the charity curry evening at the Usha restaurant in Rossendale Road.

Attendees enjoyed a variety of Indian dishes and listened to talks from members of the Emmaus Burnley.

Former Burnley MP Peter Pike, supporter at Emmaus Burnley and organiser of the event, said: “It was a great evening and my thanks go to Usha Restaurant and the supporters who attended the event. The money raised will go towards supporting companions who live and work at Emmaus Burnley community.”

Stephen Buchanan, director at Emmaus Burnley, said: “Our charity curry evening was a fantastic celebration of the work Emmaus does to support formerly homeless people. Peter and Ibby’s restaurant team did a great job of organising the night and I would like to thank them on behalf of the community at Emmaus Burnley.”

Emmaus Burnley supports formerly homeless people by providing them with a stable home and meaningful work for as long as they need it.

The charity operates two social enterprises in Burnley and Accrington with all the money raised used to support the community of people who live and work at Emmaus Burnley.

There are currently 29 Emmaus communities across the country, supporting more than 760 companions in the UK. In addition there are four Emmaus groups, all of which are working towards setting up an Emmaus community in their area.
