Friends of a student nurse who was found dead on the first day of her hospital placement have raised more than £8,000 in her memory.

Epilepsy sufferer Lucy Blackburn (20), from Hapton, collapsed in toilets at Warrington Hospital after suffering a seizure a week ago. Hundreds are expected to attend her funeral on Thursday where balloons will be released as a tribute to the "bright and bubbly" young woman. Lucy's friends have also set up a funding page to buy a new minibus to transport student nurses from the university campus to the hospital, a campaign Lucy was trying to start before her death.

Lucy's mum Susan Thorley said she has been inundated with messages of support from all over the world since Lucy's death.

"Everyone has been so nice and so helpful. Her university friends have been wonderful. It's really helped. Lucy wasn't a natural academic but she worked hard and she would've made a fantastic nurse."
