Linda Whitfield, head of workforce education at the Trust, said: “The importance of recruiting and then retaining younger nurses cannot be stressed enough.

“The country’s health and social care workforce has a high proportion of older employees, in particular one in three NHS community nurses who are ages 50 or older.

“For this reason, retaining 9 out of 10 student nurses ensures our future workforce has the right numbers, skills, values and behavious to meet society’s needs now, and in the future.”
