60-year-old man dies in Burnley house fire

The police and fire services were both called out to the blaze at 2.40pm today.

It has now been confirmed by Lancashire Constabulary that a man in his 60's died at the scene, causing two roads to be closed whilst police handled the incident.

The fire resulted in the closure of both Ighten Road and Faraday Street but the cause is not thought to be suspicious at this time.

A spokesperson from the Lancashire police said: "Emergency services were called to an address on Ighten Road in Burnley at about 2.40pm today following reports of a house fire.

"We can now sadly confirm that as a result of the fire one person, a man in his 60s, died at the scene. While the cause of the fire is under investigation there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances at this time.

"The man’s next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them and all of the man’s loved ones."

Earlier today, a statement from the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 14:35 three fire engines from Burnley and Nelson attended a fire in the outbuilding of a domestic property on Ighton Road, Burnley.

"Crews used two breathing apparatus and a hose reel.

"There is currently a road closure in place whilst emergency services deal with the incident."
