26 new jobs at Burnley aerospace firm

Burnley’s biggest employer Aircelle is set to become a national centre of excellence after being awarded £4.6m. from a Government fund to help rebuild British manufacturing prowess.

Business Secretary Vince Cable announced the grant which will see the aerospace company create 26 new jobs and safeguard 449 jobs.

The cash injection is part of a £12.3m. project Aircelle is leading with Composites Integration and the University of Nottingham to create a UK nacelle structure (the outer casing of an aircraft) centre of excellence in Burnley.

Mr Cable said: “While there is much to celebrate about British manufacturing, it is clear that our supplier base has been eroded over the last 30 years.

“Reversing this will boost exports and help safeguard UK jobs. Our targeted interventions have helped revive the great British manufacturing sector.

“The benefits of stronger manufacturing supply chains will be felt across the whole economy. The UK nacelle structure centre of excellence will deliver sizeable benefits to the manufacturing supply chain in Burnley, boosting local jobs, and that is why I’m pleased to award it funding.”
