Work started this week to carry out minor improvements to the slip road at junction 9 of the M65, at Hapton, and on Monday work is due to begin to install traffic lights at Gannow roundabout – one of the town’s main gateways.

The works are part of wider Lancashire County Council proposals to turn the approach from Gannow Top into a so-called “Burnley Growth Corridor” and maximise potential benefits from redevelopment projects such as the Todmorden Curve and the Weavers’ Triangle. The project will also encourage walking and cycling. Mr Graeme Leathard, the county council’s principal engineer working on the improvements, said: “The works started on April 8th and are expected to last for approximately 12 weeks.

“They will include minor improvements at the top of the M65 slip road at junction 9.

“The works will also include improvement of the roundabout at the top of the M65 junction 10 slip road along with the installation of traffic signals.”
