The firm has recruited extra workers to cope with increased demand from customers in Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Canada, trebling the number of employees since this time last year.

As well as permanent staff the company also used 322 agency workers in July to cope with an increased workload, while more temporary employees will be recruited in the run-up to Christmas.

Bosses at Boohoo said an expansion to the company’s warehouse with an estimated investment of £15m. is well on track and is due to open early next year.

A spokesman said: “The warehouse extension is on track and the building will be complete by late February/beginning March. There will then be a further four months for the fit-out. The extension is 105,000 sq. ft. and is 24m. high.

“We will be keeping a close eye on trends and very much gearing up to Christmas as our peak trading period.”

The announcement has been welcomed by Burnley Council leader Coun. Mark Townsend. He said: “I welcome any news like that, that local companies are rewarding their staff. They must be doing an excellent job, it’s good to see employers recognising that and is another boost for Burnley’s local economy.

“I think it recognises that we have got a very skilled workforce and employers value it and are prepared to pay for it. It’s excellent news.”
