Tributes as Pendle cabaret group Manhattans drummer dies in Dublin

a MAN who was a member of one of Pendle’s cabaret groups has died suddenly in his home city of Dublin.

Michael Anthony Haugh, better known by his stage name of Tony Morando, was the drummer and vocalist with the Manhattans from the early 1970s to the late 1980s.

The threesome were popular entertainers at venues such as the Manor House at Thornton-in-Craven, Nelson Grammar School Old Boys Club, Nelson Old Brass Band Club and the Talbot Hotel in Burnley.

The Manhattans also played holiday camps such as Butlin’s (Minehead) and toured in Norway during the 1980s.

Close friend Russ Lee said: “Small in stature but huge in talent, he could drum, sing, play flute and, like most Irish musicians, play any other instrument he could lay his hands on.

“How old was he? I’m not sure, but then with all that talent it’s really hard to date a leprechaun.”
