Travel review: True taste of Yorkshire

Yorkshire’s seaside towns have taken a bit of a battering in recent years – and not just by the weather.

But it is good to see that the grand old lady of the rugged Yorkshire coastline – Scarborough – is fighting back and the white rose county’s holiday flagship has been given a welcome makeover.

Now I have to confess to being biased when it comes to my home county, but that’s my perogative as a Yorkie, born and bred.

Occasionally, you come across a real hidden gem that offers comfort, seclusion and quality.

Those terms certainly apply to the highly-rated Ox Pasture Hall Hotel which resides in its own piece of picturesque Yorkshire countryside just a few miles from the grand old lady herself.

Rustic style and charm sum up perfectly Ox Pasture Hall which nestles in 17 acres of blissful Yorkshire countryside and gardens.

A weekend break there certainly helped banish my work stresses and strains which have become part of modern-day working life.

Emphasis is on quality and the two-rosette badged Courtyard restaurant certainly ticked all the boxes with a tempting array of fine British foods that adorn menus which offer fine dining, afternoon tea and lunch options

Our suite afforded long views stretching towards the hills and moors of North Yorkshire – a backdrop designed to ease you into the day.

Breakfast was fresh, locally-sourced and plentiful - true Yorkshire traits.

A roaring log fire, comfy settees and armchairs greet the guest after a day tramping over moors, along a windswept beach or a visit to one of the many castles and stately homes that can be found nearby.

Ox Pasture Hall is one of those places that merges old-fashioned peace and quiet with modern-day comfort - a winning combination if I ever I saw one.

Yorkshire has a proud reputation for the range and standard of its country and boutique hotels and Ox Pasture Hall sits there proudly among the best.

Like the grand old lady of Scarborough itself, the hotel has certainly stood the test of time and will be around for many years to come.
