Swing Commanders return to Clitheroe after Texas tour

Back on home ground after a whirlwind five-city tour of Texas, are Clitheroe’s Western Swing specialists, The Swing Commanders.

The band headlined the celebrated Legends of Western Swing Festival in Wichita Falls before moving on to Fort Worth, Bandera and Austin to present the best of Europe’s Texas Swing to enthusiastic audiences of real Texans! They also performed on TV during their Stateside visit.

Even their only “night off” did not go according to plan when the sextet turned up to watch one of the world’s top Western Swing bands at The Broken Spoke, Texas’s most historic honkytonk.

The Hot Texas Band were without their fiddle player, but violinists Gaynor Sutcliffe and Rosy Williams simply took the place by storm as they split the fiddle work for the whole gig without any rehearsal and only the most basic notes to hand.

In fact it proved quite an easy night for the home band, as they first invited The Swing Commanders to join them on stage to share four numbers, before letting them loose on their musical equipment to round off the evening in true Clitheroe style!

Numerous hearty invitations to return in 2012 suggested that Texas clearly appreciated Clitheroe’s latest musical export!
