Should every town have a site reserved for the use of travellers?

The furore over the eviction of members of the travelling community from their base at the controversial Dale Farm site in Essex has hit the headlines recently and shows no sign of disappearing.

With travellers setting up impromtu sites on car parks, disused land and in lay-bys across East Lancashire over the summer, we’re asking should every town allocate a plot of land for the use of travellers who want to set up camp?

Would a specific camp site benefit both the travellers and local community? Or should the police and council perhaps have more powers to move travellers on more quickly?
