Modern tapestry weaving display and workshops in Clitheroe

a SNAPSHOT of current British tapestry weaving can be seen at “Northweave”, the latest exhibition at Clitheroe’s Platform Gallery.

Created by Northern members of the British Tapestry Group, the work on display reflects the varying styles and techniques of contemporary tapestry weavers. The group was formed in West Yorkshire in 2005 by a small collection of weavers, which has since grown to more than 150 members worldwide. Its aim is to promote the art of tapestry weaving and provide a network of communication for tapestry weavers nationwide.

Works vary from minutely detailed weaves to 3D pieces and experimental works. As well as the diverse collection on display at the gallery, there will also be the chance to take part in one-day workshops on March 19th and 26th and to observe BTG members working at their looms – Joyce Coulton from 10-15 a.m. to noon on March 22nd and Helen Varley from 1 to 3 p.m. on April 13th.

The Platform Gallery is now operating new opening hours which are Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4-30 p.m. Admission to the exhibition is free.
