You can enter Shed of the Year 2021 - here's how to apply and what you could win

The prestigious Shed of the Year competition took the nation by storm when it was first introduced in 2007.

Fifteen years later and the competition continues to see a host of people converting sheds into dream-like spaces in a bid to be crowned champion.

What does the competition involve?

The popular contest invites entrants to submit their creations in one of the seven categories - including last year’s introduction of the lockdown category - in order to be in with the chance of winning a £1,000 prize and £100 worth of Cuprinol products.

Last year’s winner was Daniel Holloway, who won Shed of the Year 2020 after impressing the judges with his nature-inspired Bedouin Tree-Shed.

This year’s categories are:

• Budget
• Cabin/Summerhouse
• Pub & Entertainment
• Unexpected / Unique
• Workshop/Studio
• Nature’s Haven
• Lockdown

Founder and Head Judge of the competition, Andrew Wilcox, explains how sheds have become a place of sanctuary over the past year.

Mr Wilcox said: “Since the competition started 15 years ago, we’ve seen some brilliantly creative uses of sheds across the UK.

“Over the past year, we’ve seen people retreat to their sheds as a place of respite and sanctuary and the imagination going into them has been particularly impressive.”

“We cannot wait to see the amazing ways people have used their sheds this year.”

How do I apply?

Entries to the competition need to include a selection of the best photos of your shed designs, alongside an explanation behind the inspiration for your shed and what makes it stand out from the rest.

Your entry can be submitted on the Shed of the Year website up until Monday 12 April.

The shortlist will then be selected by a panel of judges, before the public vote opens to select the nation’s favourite shed for 2021.

Category winners will be announced in August, with the overall winner awarded the £1,000 prize money and £100 worth of products.
