Plan to build 36 new homes in Brierfield

Plans for a major housing development in Brierfield go before Pendle councillors next Tuesday night.

Members of the Brierfield and Reedley Committee will discuss proposals by Pearl 2 to build 36 houses on land between Veevers Street and the canal side.

Pearl are also seeking outline permission for residential use of another part of the site nearest to the canal.

The full element of the scheme, if permission is granted, would comprise 24 semi-detached bungalows, eight three-bedroom dormer bungalows, six three-bedroom bungalows, four two-bedroom bungalows and 12 three-bedroom houses, all with off-street parking.

In a report to members, planning officer Kathryn Hughes recommends that permission is granted and says: “The proposed development is acceptable in terms of housing development on this site and would not adversely impact on amenity, ecology, the listed building (Brierfield Mills) or the Brierfield Conservation Area.

“Adequate off street parking has been provided and the highway network can accommodate the vehicular traffic that will arise from this development subject to highway improvements.

“The proposal therefore accords with local and national policy subject to appropriate conditions.”
