Garden party is a blooming great success

More than 200 people, including 30 children, attended a fundraising garden party, which raised an impressive £2,000.

Organised by members of the Whalley in Bloom committee, attractions during the day included bug hunts, badge making and story telling by The Lancashire Wildlife Trust.

Other crowd pleasers on the day were cuddly toy tombola along with plenty of games for children in the lovely big gardens.

For the adults there was prosecco and strawberries, tea and cake, tombola, water into wine stall (pay £1 and select a newspaper wrapped bottle, it may be water - it may be wine!), bling stall (jewellery and scarves), book stall, bric-a-brac and plants for sale. Also a raffle and a flower quiz.

A spokesman for the Whalley in Bloom committee said: “We would like to thank Dave and Wendy Leach, who were our kind hosts at Lawson-steads.

“Various local businesses including Precious and Amico Mios donated raffle prizes so we are grateful to them, plus many kind villagers who donated tombola prizes, books, toys, jewellery and scarves for us to sell.

“The Whalley in Bloom committee members and volunteers baked cakes and ran stalls. It was a huge success and we can’t thank everyone enough.

“All proceeds went towards the Welcome Home Planters and other Restoration, Recovery and Renewal projects within the village.”
