Brierfield homes to be demolished

Councillors have given the go-ahead for a block of five premises in Brierfield to be demolished and the area landscaped.

Numbers nine to 17 on Railway Street have been derelict for years and are owned by Pendle Council. A report at the authority’s latest Brierfield and Reedley Committee meeting outlined the options for members to discuss.

The idea of knocking the block down has finally been realised after Pendle Council secured a £1.4m. grant in November last year.

And this was thought to be the only viable option due to cost and because the granted funds came with strict guidelines as to how and where the money could be used.

The block has long been an eyesore with councillors and residents alike wanting to see the whole row demolished with remaining businesses in Railway Street relocated to premises in Colne Road.

Work is expected to start in the spring and residents, Pendle Council’s Brierfield and Reedley Committee and Brierfield Town Council will all be consulted on the appearance of the landscaped area.
