Help save the environment - bumblebee identification course

Bumblebees are really important for helping to pollinate the plants in our gardens and in the countryside, but unfortunately their numbers are in decline.

There is a variety of different species and we do need to know what we have got in our area and how we might be able to help them.

With this in mind, Lancashire Wildlife Trust is running a bumblebee identification course next Saturday, August 6th, at Cross Hill Quarry Nature Reserve in Clitheroe.

It will start at 10 a.m. at Hanson Cement’s Training Centre on West Bradford Road, Clitheroe, with an introductory talk, with participants then proceeding to the neighbouring nature reserve to look for bees in the wild.

The course is being led by bumblebee enthusiast Brian Robinson. It will run until approximately 2-30 p.m. depending on weather and the bees.

Tea and coffee will be available in the training centre, but people should take along their own packed lunch if they are going to stay for the full course.

The course is free but people need to book in advance by contacting East Lancashire reserves officer Phil Dykes on 07841 996722.
