Nursery nurse Elaine Mercieca, who swapped Burnley for the sunnier climes of Malta, decided to write a book for children after overcoming endometriosis, allergies and two surgeries for a benign brain tumour.

The book, 'Self Love Star', is a fantasy story but one which teaches children aged three to seven ways in which they can love themselves.

She said: "After seeing many adults seeking alternative therapies for many different illnesses, I learned some important areas of self love, which I garnered from different alternative therapists and reading many books that could change our health for the better.

"We don't always need medication and with some illnesses doctors do not always know enough and have no cure.

"The message is for everyone and especially now in these times of Covid-19 it is more relevent than ever to keep healthy and boost the mood.

"I first read the book to children when it was published in a little school in Jamaica in January when we were there on holiday. It was received very well and I gave them a copy to use and inspire parents.

"I will be giving talks about the book here in Malta and in the UK when it is safe again to do so. I was inspired to write the story for young children so they learn these important lessons of loving and caring for their bodies at a young age, possibly saving much suffering in later life.

"It covers things such as eating well and exercising. I worked at Burnley General on the Special Baby Care Unit when I lived in Burnley and set up pre school playgroups."

The book can be bought on Amazon, Book Deposotory, Olympia Publishers and many more outlets.
