Choirmaster leads the challenge to get the whole town of Burnley singing live together

A Burnley choirmaster will once again conduct his 'choir' this evening as he continues his bid to get the whole town singing live.

Chris Bridges will be leading his neighbours, in the Lowerhouse area of the town, in a sing a long tonight at 7pm and anyone who wants to join in with the 'Front Door Choir' can do so from their own street, house, garden or apartment by joining a live feed at 7pm.

Tonight's songs are 500 Miles, On The Sunny Side of the Street, Let It Be, Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick and Rock Around the Clock, and Chris, who will lead the singing at the keyboard, will be joined by his wife Helen and their eldest son, Lewis (21) on guitar. Lewis is a final year student at Leeds College of Music.

Neigbours have really got into the spirit of the event by bringiing out their own musical instruments to play as they sing.

Chris has been leading the choir for the past three weeks and each time the response has grown with more residents and neighbours joining in and people passing stopping to take part.

Chris said: "We have had just over 5,000 views so far which is amazing."

Passionate about music, Chris believes that singing is one of the keys to helping people get through the turmoil and uncertainty of the Covid 19 lockdown as it enters the fifth week.

Chris, who is a composer and music teacher at Ridgewood Community High School in Burnley, is the inspiration behind The Impossible Choir which aims to bring together people who love to sing, whatever their ability.

Rehearsals and performances will take place at The Gallery at Creative Arts in Burnley. The first rehearsal was postponed due to the lockdown, so Chris and Helen, who is also a fellow musician, performed their own duet instead.
