Burnley grandmother is literally singing the praises of the NHS who saved her life twice

A Burnley grandmother has taken to music to express her thanks to the NHS for saving her life... twice.

And Jennifer Holland, who has overcome cancer and heart failure, has become a hit, not only on the avenue where she lives, but with viewers across the world who have watched her sing.

For she joined a group on facebook called Rock the Lock Down which invites singers to post videos of themselves singing their favourite songs.

Grandmother of two Jennifer decided to perform he classic 60s hit Sunny Afternoon by The Kinks. But she added her own twist by changing the lyrics to 'singing afternoon.'

The response was amazing with people all over the world, including Australia, New Zealand and Canada, watching Jennifer's star performance and also sharing it.

She said: "It has been shared so many times and I have received some wonderful feedback."

Residents in Sycamore Avenue look forward to Jennifer's singing when they come out of their homes every Thursday evening for the NHS tribute.

Complete with music and a microphone Jennifer, who lives with her husband Ken, blasts outs a couple of tunes to cheers and rounds of applause from friends and neigbours who have also been calling for an encore.

For Jennifer, who will be 70 in October, it is a labour of love and her own way of thanking the NHS staff who saved her when she was so ill.

She said: "A lot of my neighbours work for the NHS and they do a marvellous job.

"Without doubt the staff at Burnley General Hospital have saved my life and this is my way of expressing my gratitude to them by doing something I really enjoy."

Retired for six years Jennifer worked in the design department at Nelson's Mackintosh Ltd for many years.

She has a daughter, Jacqueline and stepdaughter, Tracy. Her grandsons are Joseph (18) and 21-year-old Connah who is following in his grandmother's footsteps as a music student at Manchester University.

Jennifer said: "He said he got his inspiration from me as he bought his first guitar with money he won on a scratchcard that I bought for him."
