And orders are coming in thick and fast for the bookmarks made by Victoria Bond and her little girl Annie who is six.

They came up with the idea to create the keyworker characters, including nurses, doctors, police officers and firefighters, after Victoria bought a pack of plain wooden characters to add to Annie's growing craft collection.

Victoria said: "Annie has been doing lots of different crafts and selling them outside our home as part of our 'doorstep shop' project because she wanted to do something to raise money for Alder Hey children's hospital

"I spotted the wooden characters in Tesco and bought a couple of packs not really knowing what we would do with them."

The enterprising duo started doodling with the characters at their home in Briercliffe and then hit upon the idea of turning them into bookmarks with each one a different keyworker.

Victoria said: "We thought about what people would be doing at home during lockdown and we knew many would be reading so bookmarks seemed ideal."

Creative Annie, who is a pupil at Cliviger Primary School, got to work with her coloured pencils to bring the keyworkers to life and each one has an inspirational quote on it with a little gift label signed by Annie.

Victoria then posted pictures of their creations on a facebook group they had joined called the Great British Camp Out for the NHS and they were bombarded with messages, inquiries and orders.

Victoria, who is a dental hygenist, said: "I can't believe how this has grown from something that started out as a bit of doodling.

"We have received orders from all over the UK, from people who want to send them to relatives who are keyworkers to grandparents who can't be with their grandchildren to show them they are thinking about them."

Victoria, who is married to husband Rob and also has a son Oliver who is almost two, was overwhelmed when she received a request for one of the bookmarks from Dr Larisa Corda who makes regular appearances on ITV's This Morning.

And today she is packing up a collection of 30 to be sent to Yorkshire where they will be used as puppets for children living in deprived communities.

Victoria said: "I was contacted by play therapist and author Berni Stringer to say how much she loved Annie's little creations and how they would be perfect to help children in these deprived communities during isolation."

So far the mum and daughter have raised £200 for Alder Hey which is a cause close to their hearts as the daughter of a family friend, who was diagnosed with leukaemia, has been treated there and Victoria's cousin, who has Down's Syndrome, has also spent a lot of time there.

The bookmarks are £2-50 each, with £1 for postage, or £10 for a pack of four.

And as the project has been such a success, with 130 on order to date, the duo are running out of character sticks. So they have asked friends and family, and everyone across the UK, to keep any eye out for them so they can continue with their sterling work.
