These are the best value Christmas food deals across the UK’s major supermarkets

While we all might look forward to exchanging presents at Christmas, one of the greatest joys of the festive season is the chance to tuck in to copious amounts of food.

‘Tis the season for over indulgence, and thankfully this year both sweet and savoury treats are not in short supply. Supermarket shelves are brimming with a huge assortment of meats, side dishes, desserts, party food and various tasty nibbles to choose from - and at some bargain prices, too.

Here’s a selection of some of the best Christmas food that’s on offer and won’t break the bank.

Aldi

If turkey is your go-to food at Christmas, Aldi is selling a large turkey crown at £6.89 per kg, and is donating £1 of the profits to the Neighbourly Foundation - a charity which helps to tackle food poverty across the UK.

The supermarket has a variety of meats on offer this year, including prime gammon joint for £3.69, a pork hog roast for £9.99, a whole leg of lamb for £5.49 and a two metre long pig in blanket for just £4.99.

A range of sides are available for less than £2.50 each, with Yorkshire puddings, goose fat roast potatoes, stuffing and sprouts all up for grabs, as well as a selection of party food.

Those with a sweet tooth can pick up an array of desserts, with options including an arctic roulade for £4.49, a millionaire’s pudding for £5.99, a cheesecake for £2.99 and a luxury Sicilian lemon tart for £1.99.

Lidl

You could pick up your meat centrepiece from Lidl for less than a tenner, with the likes of a lamb shoulder, stuffed goose, turkey breast joint and a game roast all priced at a mere £9.99.

If you want something a bit larger, a large basted turkey will cost you just £16.99, while a medium or small turkey is priced at £12.99 and £9.49 respectively. As for sides, Yorkshire puddings, sprouts, carrots and roast parsnips are all priced at less than £2.

A vast array of desserts and sweet treats are also on offer, including a dark chocolate and salted caramel cottage for £6.99, an espresso martini roulade for £3.49 and a rich fruit cake for £4.99.

Asda

Asda is selling all of the staple food items for a Christmas dinner in a bundle for eight people.

The meal box contains five items for a main course, including a turkey breast joint and roast potatoes, and it will only cost you less than £14.90 for the lot – amounting to just £1.86 per person. However, shoppers will have to pay for any extras, such as sauces, desserts, and drinks, unlike similar dinner meals at rival supermarkets.

An extra large whole basted turkey on its own costs £21.50, with trimmings like pigs in blankets and brussel sprouts priced at less than £3 each.

Asda is also selling a vast range of nibbles and sweet treats, including luxury mince pies for £1.75, Camembert cheese for £1.15 and chocolate Florentines for £1.80.

Tesco

Tesco’s festive food range includes a variety of Christmas centrepieces, including a French trimmed pork loin, a whole lamb leg and a free range bronze whole turkey, alongside a range of vegan options and tempting desserts.

Among the cheapest deals is Tesco’s Finest Christmas dinner for two, which will only set you back £35 and comes with crackers and a bottle of bubbly. Meanwhile a no-turkey crown, a whole chicken and a beef roasting joint can be enjoyed for £5 or less.

Among the desserts are some budget-friendly options including a five cheese platter for £5, Tesco Finest chocolate cake for £2.75, and a chocolate or raspberry trifle for a mere £2.50.

Sainsbury’s

Shoppers can pick up a whole turkey for just £14 at Sainsbury's, with extra large options available for less than £30.

Side options, such as pigs in blankets, sprouts, parsnips and potatoes, can be picked up for a mere £2.50 or less, while the variety of festive bakes and desserts won’t cost you too much.

A box of Taste the Difference all butter mince pies only costs £1.50, while Sainsbury's Chocolate Chip Panettone costs £1.25.

Morrisons

Morrisons is selling a Christmas dinner box which will set you back £50. The meal serves four and includes all of the trimmings, like cranberry sauce, pigs in blankets and seven items for dessert.

Separately, shoppers can also pick up items like a three bird roast for £20, a rich fruit Christmas pudding from £1 and a salted caramel cheesecake for £3.

Marks & Spencer is on the pricier end for to shop for your Christmas dinner, but there are some affordable deals to enjoy from the festive range.

A vegan butternut, almond and pecan nut roast for four costs just  £7.50, while for dessert you can tuck into a Rodney Reindeer New York cheesecake that serves 10 for £10, or a chocolate and orange Christmas pudding for eight at £12.

Waitrose

Waitrose is also among one of the most expensive supermarkets for your big day feast, but it is possible to snap up a good deal.

While the cost of a turkey could set you back as much as £116, you can pick up a small breast crown from just £13, while some side dishes are priced at less than a fiver.

As for dessert, a pack of six Waitrose Essential mince pies only cost £1 and a box of profiteroles is priced at £1.60.

Iceland

Christmas centrepieces are available to buy from just £5, with an array of seasonal joints priced from a mere £3, including chicken breast, gammon and pork leg.

Trimming such as parsnips, cabbage, carrots, sprouts and roast potatoes can be purchased from £1 each, while desserts start from £2 each, with a black forest gateau, chocolate orange cheesecake and a chocolate yule log among the choices.

In addition, a selection of party food is on offer with shoppers able to pick up three items for £5, with options including sticky chicken skewers, hot dog rolls, cheese and garlic bites and mini steak bakes.
