In pictures: Cars, coffee and a charity cheque at Pendle Powerfest

The Pendle Powerfest Team were celebrating their fund-raising successes with a presentation of £2,000 to The Encephalitis Society.

They had chosen to support the charity after one of their own, committee member Graham Midgley, was affected by the brain condition last year.

With double the visitors to this year’s Italian Job themed show in May, the team were able to donate twice as much as in 2015. The Powerfest team were joined by the Mayor and Mayoress of Pendle Coun. Rosemary Carroll and Carol Belshaw-Goulthorp, and Leader of Pendle Borough Council Coun. Mohammed Iqbal. They had all supported the main event and were more than happy to return for another dose of horsepower and chrome.

Carolyn Jackson the Community Fund-raising and Event Co-ordinator from the charity collected the cheque.

She said: “We are delighted to receive such a generous donation from Pendle Powerfest. We really appreciate the amount of effort that the team have put in, not only in raising money but also with raising awareness, which to us is just as important.”

“People from the Pendle area have been fantastic in supporting our charity with the Big Band Boogie at the Burnley Mechanics and Over The Rainbow at The Muni. This, combined with Pendle Powerfest, means our exposure in this area is fantastic.

“It was lovely to meet Graham who has done so well since his illness and thank goodness he has had such a good outcome.”

A huge range of vehicles turned up from perfectly maintained classics to some of the latest supercars. An ex-armed forces wagon and a classic articulated lorry also joined in the fun. Visitors have really taken to the laid back approach of these events and with the continued support from Rolls-Royce Leisure, the Powerfest team have found a great partnership.

Local radio presenter and journalist Mark Stone took along a Polaris Slingshot. A rare sight on UK roads, this three wheeled machine can be driven on a bike or car licence. It received huge amounts of attention, culminating in Mark taking, to their delight, both the Mayor and Mayoress for a ride to experience roofless motoring.

For Pendle Powerfest it also marked the launch of the Mud and Motorsport themed main event on May 28th at Nelson and Colne College. It was also a chance to interact with future customers and exhibitors as well as taking a share of the catering profit to aid their fund-raising.
