Car parking charges in Burnley are set to rise as town hall bosses bid to make savings.
From February most car parking tickets will increase by 10p and council chiefs said the move is part of wider plans for the authority to adopt a more commercial approach to services.

Coun. Wajid Khan, the council’s Executive member for resources and performance management, said: “Burnley Council’s approach is about protecting and continuing to provide the priority services we are responsible for, and to encourage jobs growth for our borough.
“The commercial emphasis in this report is about ensuring that continues into the future.
“Carefully considered increases in some charges do need to be part of that. The last time daily car park charges were increased in the town centre was nearly three years ago, in February 2013. Shopping in Burnley continues to be attractive and very good value, and with charges such as £1 for an hour or £2.10 for two to three hours, it’s clear that Burnley is still very competitive as compared with other towns with a similar retail offer.”
The proposals will be discussed at a meeting of the Executive on Tuesday, December 1st.
