THERE were cheers all round for Starblaze, the Shuttleworth College cheerleading team, who won third place in a national competition.

The group has been together for just six months and is already doing well in national cheerleading competitions, such as the UKCA Schools Championship, which took place at Manchester Velodrome.

The 12 girls threw their pom-poms sky-high to reach third place in the KS3 pom dance category.

Battling against 15 other UK teams, the talented teens also won the UKCA Spirit Award, which is awarded to the team that shows the most spirit and support for their competitors throughout the day.

Coach Amanda Fildes said: “They have practised every night after school for two hours, so they have put a lot of time into this. I’m extremely proud of them all.”
