Blues acts to honour Jessica’s memory

AN evening of pure blues talent has seen seven acts chosen to play on the Jessica Foxley Stage at this year’s Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival.

Bright Shapes, Juall, Deep In The Mire and Kaseno will all perform at various slots on the British Stage over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

And another three – Tom and Evie, Baxter Rhodes and Jayke Cox – will play on the Acoustic Stage at the Lesser Muni over the four-day event in Colne.

A total of 14 musicians auditioned for one of the sought-after places and after much deliberation by the group of judges, the final seven were chosen.

Not only have the bands and solo artists won the chance to play in front of hundreds of both national and international blues fans, they have also won the chance to produce a demo at Studio 11 recording studios at the ACE Centre, Nelson.

The Jessica Foxley Stage was launched last year in memory of the talented, local musician who was killed in a car crash in July 2009.

Festival organiser Alison Goode said: “We want to honour Jessica’s talent and support other local people like her by giving them this opportunity to be heard and perform at such an established event.

“And again this year we had some fantastic, young people audition. The judges were faced with some difficult decisions, but we feel blues fans will thoroughly enjoy the artistes we have chosen and the music they will perform.”
