A £2m-plus phoenix has risen from the rubble of the buildings which once housed the training operation for British Nuclear Fuels' works at Salwick. The new training centre at the Springfields works is built on the site of the former apprentice school but is designed to accommodate training for adult workers as well as apprentices. Duncan Goodhew came to Preston and held a large audience at the Saul Street pool spellbound, as he demonstrated the flexibility exercises, training drills and racing technique that made him Olympic champion in Moscow.
