'Outstanding' hospital chaplain awarded Trust's Employee of the Month accolade
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust’s 'Employee of the Month' accolade for September has been awarded to Trust chaplain and iman Fazal Hassan.
Fazal, who works in the Trust’s Spiritual Care Centre, was nominated by a patient who praised him for his help during his time in critical care at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.
The nomination received stated that: “Fazal has played a crucial role in the improvement and progression of my recovery.
"His conversations with me centred around my needs and concerns. Fazal went out of his way to visit me on a Sunday whilst I was in the hospital.
"His communication skills were outstanding. He was always calm and listening. I missed my family greatly whilst in hospital so he helped by arranging video calls for us.”
Fazal was presented his award by Martin Hodgson, deputy chief executive for the Trust, who said: “Fazal has worked tirelessly to help our patients with their faith and spiritual needs throughout what has been an extremely difficult year.
"He has supported many patients who have felt extremely vulnerable and missing their families. He is a truly deserving winner of this award.”
