New project to help shape Pendle's fitness future


The Together an Active Pendle is a community-wide project working with residents to understand the way they connect with physical activity.

The project is part of the Pennine-wide Together an Active Future Local Delivery Pilot funded by Sport England.

Pennine Lancashire is one of 12 local delivery pilots from across the country working together to support and enable more people to move more and get active.

It has the support of Sport England, Lancashire and South Cumbria ICS, Pendle Health and Well-being Board, Pendle Leisure Trust, Pendle Borough Council, Pendle East and West Primary Care Network and several other local charities and groups.

Locality Lead for Together an Active Pendle, Chris Rigby, said: “Together an Active Pendle isn't about one organisation, it is about many coming together to support our neighbourhoods and communities.

“We want to engage with as many organisations, groups, charities, clubs and employers as possible to allow us to create long-term changes that positively benefits the health and well-being of Pendle residents.

“How complex and diverse people’s relationships are with physical activity has required us to think about how systems and policies must change to support communities.

“Over the last few months, we have been working closely with a number of local organisations to gain insight and understanding as to what communities want when it comes to physical activity.

“Through this, we have produced a website, survey and discussion platform to better understand what people across our borough experience on a day-to-day basis. The personal stories we have collected will help shape what happens next, to best help those in our household, our community and in Pendle.”
