New Covid cases and rate of infection falling in Pendle but figure remains high

The number of new Covid cases and the rate of infection per 100,000 have come down in Pendle over the last seven days but the rate is still high.

Sadly, the number of deaths since the start of the pandemic has gone up again in the past seven days from 190 to 195. These are people who have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19.

There were 433 new cases and the rate of infection per 100,000 was 535.2 in the last seven days.

The age group which has recorded the most new cases has shifted from 20 - 29 to 30-39.

In total, Pendle has seen 195 deaths since the start of the pandemic and 8,473 cases.

A Pendle Council spokesman said: "If it's essential to go out, we’re reminding local people to remember to wash their hands, cover their face and make space.

On January 20th the number of new cases for the previous seven days was 636 and the rate of infection was 690.5 per 100,000.
