ELHT&Me said there were too many supporters to list individually but the charity wanted to thank every single family, community group, local company and person for their "amazing support" during the pandemic.

The message read: "The Covid-19 outbreak has been a challenging time for the NHS in East Lancashire, but the support of the local community has been immense.

"Families, community groups, local companies and individuals have shown their appreciation for our NHS staff by fundraising and making donations – we have been overwhelmed by their kindness and generosity.

"There are too many supporters to list individually, but please know that we are hugely grateful to every one of you.

"As the Trust’s charity, we have worked hard to ensure that your donations are distributed across all areas of care, prioritising those who need them most, and we have shared your good wishes and messages of encouragement with our staff too.

"In these challenging circumstances, even the smallest gestures can make a big difference, and there are too many to list here! Some examples are that staff wearing PPE during long shifts have been able to benefit from lip balms for dry lips, sweet drinks to rehydrate, and hand creams after using hand sanitiser and soap.

"We have also been able to create ‘Oasis’ spaces for staff across all of our sites, for staff to take some much-needed time out, to practice mindfulness, do some colouring or a jigsaw, or just relax.

"Patients have also hugely benefitted from your donations, as we’ve been able to provide more than 100 iPads across wards, for patients to keep in touch with their loved ones.

"We’ve also distributed 'comfort packs' containing toiletries and other essentials, for patients who aren’t able to get hold of their own personal items.

"We’ve been documenting the ways your donations have benefitted our staff and patients on our social media channels, and every penny is spent improving the environment and experience in the area of care it’s intended for.
