Scaling the three highest peaks in England, Scotland, and Wales in an astonishing 23 hours, 34 minutes, a team from Skipton-based Rural Solutions smashed their own record for the challenge and raised £2,255 for Wil’s Wishes, which was set up in memory of Wil Handford by his family after he died of bowel cancer at the age of just 24 in 2015.

Despite the unusually warm conditions, the hardy hikers clambered their way up over 10,000ft of gruelling terrain as they scaled Ben Nevis (4413ft), Scafell Pike (209ft), and Snowdon (3560ft) on July 7th and 8th whilst also covering nearly 1,000 miles in the car between mountains and consuming countless coffees, mint cakes, and biscuits.

“We are always delighted to support local and national charities through our fundraising efforts," said William Fry, Managing Director of Rural Solutions, with a number of the company's staff having known Wil. "This is our opportunity to give something back.

The support and enthusiasm from all of the 31-strong team at Rural Solutions has been wonderful and we’ve had a lot of fun taking part in these fundraising activities," he added. "I hope the team’s blisters and sore legs have recovered!"

Seeking to raise awareness of bowel cancer, to help those affected by terminal illness, and to offer financial support for the educational needs of underprivileged children, Wil's Wishes works with local schools to make a huge difference to the lives of countless people.

Rural Solutions, who provide planning and development support and advice to landowners and rural businesses to help them adapt and develop their businesses, have also chosen to support Macmillan Cancer Support throughout 2018 and have raised over £200 so far through a charity cricket match and regular bake sales.
