Here are seven restaurants, churches and community groups in the Burnley area offering free Christmas dinners for vulnerable people

Christmas is the time for merriment and togetherness – but some people simply cannot afford it, or might be lonely on the big day.

That’s why numerous kind-hearted folk in the town have rallied together to offer festive fun for all ages for free.

The following events are designed to support people who are homeless, lonely or living in poverty.

Good cheer is in the air thanks to the Alternative Christmas at The Loom and The Shift Café in Burnley. This special event on Christmas Day is for those who may not have anywhere to go. Meet at The Loom in Bank Parade at noon for Christmas dinner and a drink, then head down to The Shift Cafe for a sing and a dance at around 3pm. All the food is free but donations will be welcome. Healthier Heroes CIC in Elizabeth Street, Burnley, will be open on Christmas Day to help the homeless and those in need, with support from Curry on The Street. It will open from 6pm at Bancroft House for food, company and to speak with the team. Access is round the back of the building.

They might not quite be in Burnley, but The Wellsprings is calling on any taxi firms or volunteer drivers to help transport vulnerable people to and from their annual Christmas lunch. The Spanish and Mexican restaurant on Pendle Hill has dedicated a table on Christmas Day for up to 10 elderly people who may be spending it alone. The team is offering a free traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings, plus a gift, for those nominated for the table. Anyone who can help or would like to nominate someone is asked to ring the restaurant on 01200 427722
