Founder of The Blurred Line Group, Langho's Lewis Alexander Baxter, has set up the "Chit Chat" service to provide support for those who are lonely in their homes particularly those in vulnerable health and the over-70s.

Chit Chat is designed to look after the mental health of those who are isolated and help manage the feelings of loneliness. The initiative ensures vulnerable and elderly people have food and household supplies, someone to do their shopping and if they fancy a chat, then someone is at the end of the line ready for a natter!

Speaking about the helpline, Lewis, who a couple of years ago launched The Blurred Line Group following his own battle with mental health, said: "These are very strange times that we’re living in at the moment - with research and advice saying that we could be in this current state for months to come. One Saturday morning just over a week ago I thought, ‘What can I do to help?’ and there and then chit-chat was born into a reality. Connections are more important than ever right now and with all of us practicing ‘social distancing’ for the foreseeable future, regular chats and check-ins with loved ones, colleagues and neighbours is so important. That’s why we have set-up chit-chat to help alleviate the strain on those who may not have those connections. Those feeling isolated, anxious, alone....chit-chat is there for them to have a natter during these challenging times.”

A dedicated suite of passionate volunteers will arm the phone lines to lift spirits, boost morale and keep people talking. It will be open from 9am to 9pm seven days a week, and will provide a new forum for people to discuss topics that matter and are of interest to them. The number of the helpline is 0333 002 0333.

Lewis, a former pupil of Clitheroe Royal Grammar School, added: "Lets make life as tolerable as we can through this difficult period to save lives."

Chit Chat has already recruited a number of volunteers, but is looking for additional volunteers so if you fancy helping, please e-mail [email protected]A message from the Editorial Director, Gillian Parkinson:

Undoubtedly, they have a critical role."
