'Testing critical to saving lives' – Burnley Council leader calls on people to book Covid tests

Burnley Council leader Mark Townsend said he wants all residents aged over 18 to book a test in order help reduce the town's rate of infection.
“The UK’s chief medical officers issued a statement saying that the NHS risks being overwhelmed within January and we are now in national lockdown.

Hide Ad“I am calling on all residents over the age of 18 to book a test, even if you don’t have symptoms. One in three people have the virus but don’t get symptoms.
"These carriers of the virus are much more likely to let their guard down and pass it onto relative or a friend that could end up in hospital as a result. We all need to follow the guidance and stick to the rules.
"If we do that, we will reduce rates of infection. I know this is tough for everyone. If you are worried about the financial impact of self-isolation, there is help available.”
Tests can be booked online through www.gov.uk.
The system will ask if you have symptoms and if you click 'no'; it will ask a number of questions until it asks 'why are you asking for a test?, and whether your local authority has asked you to get tested, at which point you should tick 'yes' and an appointment will be made for you to be tested.

- Centenary Way (opposite Burnley Bus station). Operating hours: 8am – 10pm.
- Mobile Testing Unit at King Street, Whitham Car Park – 10am – 3pm. At this site on the following dates in January, 11th to 13th, 18th to 20th, 27th to 29th.
