Specialist Burnley school closes due to staff shortages

Burnley's Ridgewood Community High School has closed today because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Although no cases have been confirmed at the school, it has been decided to close until further notice due to staff absences.

Headteachers Ian Carden wrote to parents informing them that the school was taking Government advice.

He said: "As you will appreciate, we are currently dealing with something that is complex and rapidly changing.

" Our first priority will always be the health and safety of pupils and staff.

"Thank you for your continued support at this difficult time.

"We found that there are a large number of staff absent.

"Some of these are due to usual illnesses, some are having to self isolate because of underlying medical conditions.

"At this point there are no confirmed cases of Covid-19 at Ridgewood.

" Please be aware that we do not yet know when we can reopen as we will be monitoring on a daily basis staff available to return to school."
