One of Burnley's biggest employers closes to help stop spread of coronavirus

Burnley firm VEKA has made the 'difficult decision' to close amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The PVCu systems manufacturer, based in Rossendale Road Industrial Estate, stopped making deliveries yesterday, and will temporarily close operations in the UK from Sunday.

Managing director Dave Jones said: "We must stand with other manufacturers to preserve the lives and futures of our people, customers, suppliers and community.

"Almost all our customers are also preparing to close their doors this week as the country is urged to stay at home and we no longer have a significant number of orders to fulfil.

"We are proud to have continued to support our customers as we could, following Public Health England guidelines and setting up a home working network.

"Due to the dynamic nature of the pandemic, we do not know when we will be able to open our business once more, but we will review this in three weeks in line with Government advice.

"When we do reopen, we will work hard to resume our normal level of service, but please be patient with us while we and you adjust.
