Nelson and Colne Markets to close end of today

Pendle Council is taking additional action to protect public safety including closing markets in the borough amid the coronavirus outbreak.

“Nelson and Colne Markets will close from 5pm today until further notice, while signs will be going up in parks across Pendle warning people to keep a safe distance from each other.

Council leader Coun. Mohammed Iqbal confirmed market traders will not be charged rent during this period and the closure will be reviewed at the end of April.

“Signs are also going up in Pendle playgrounds advising people not to use them to reduce the risk of the virus spreading through children and parents touching equipment.

“We are reminding people of the Government guidelines to keep two metres apart in a bid to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 virus,” said deputy leader Coun. David Whipp.

Additional changes to Pendle Council facilities include:

Reducing the opening hours of Contact Pendle at Number One Market Street Nelson, opposite Nelson Library, to 10am to 4pm.

No evening meetings at Nelson Town Hall.
