Nearly 120 COVID-19 related deaths recorded in Lancashire in one week

A total of 2,678 people have now died in hospital in Lancashire after contracting Covid-19.

The latest figures from NHS England show 119 COVID-19 deaths were recorded in Lancashire from Monday, January 25 to Monday, February 1.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust recorded 13 fatalities, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust recorded 44, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust recorded 26 and University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust recorded 36.

The statistics include patients who died in hospital - but not other places, such as care homes.

* Note: As well as the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, this trust also runs two hospitals outside Lancashire - Furness General Hospital, in Barrow, and Westmorland General Hospital, in Kendal - so it is not possible to say how many of the deaths were in Lancashire.
