Coronavirus advice on waste and recycling in Pendle

Pendle Council has issued advice on its waste collections

Pendle Council is sharing important Government health messages to prevent the spread of the disease including how waste is safely disposed of.

Coun. Mohammed Iqbal, Leader of Pendle Council said: “We are working to protect Pendle people and our crews so that essential services like bin collections can continue safely.

“It’s vital that local people play their part in stopping the spread of the virus. This advice must be followed by anyone who has, or is suspected of having, coronavirus or who is living with someone who has COVID-19 or who is experiencing symptoms.

These are: a high temperature – feeling hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature); a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual); personal waste relating to anyone who has, or is suspected of having, coronavirus (Covid-19) needs to be treated differently.

People in this situation must put disposable cleaning cloths and used tissues in a plastic rubbish bag, put that bag into another bag and tie it. Store it securely away from other waste for at least 72 hours. Then put it in your grey waste bin.

David Walker, Environmental Services manager, said: “If your next grey bin refuse collection is more than 72 hours away, you can put your double bagged rubbish straight into your grey bin.

“If your next grey bin collection is less than 72 hours away, then store your waste securely, such as in a secure shed or backyard if possible. Other waste and recycling can be disposed of as normal and please recycle it right and if you’re in doubt visit our website www.pendle.gov.uk/recycling.” he added.
