Despite being in lockdown in Spain, which has now become the third country to confirm more cases of coronavirus than China, Valerie Turner is keeping positive and cheerful at her home in Alicante.

The former Pendle hairdresser decided to set herself a series of challenges and her first one was to complete a tap dancing routine.

And judging by this stunning little performance you would never imagine this is the first time Clarets fan Val has tap danced in 17 years.

She pulled the challenge off in style perfectly to Sammy Davis Junior's rendition of the classic song Rhythm of Life leaving her family so stunned and delighted they decided to share it across social media.

Val said: "It's just me doing what I love really and it hope it has cheered people up.

"I have been singing and dancing all my life, I love it."

Val (76) and John, her husband of 56 years, moved out to the little town of Benissa 17 years ago. During the coronavirus crisis they have kept themselves in total isolation with only John venturing out for food supplies.

Val, who has also recorded a 'Green Goddess ' style exercise video added: "It is very quiet where we are anyway but the rules have been enforced very strictly with police stopping people if they are out and only one person per car allowed."

The couple are constantly in touch with family back home including their son Steven, who is the owner of Tubbs of Colne restaurant, their daughter Lucy and also their seven grandchildren.

Originally from Dorset, Val and John, who will be 80 next year, lived in Barnoldswick for four years.

Retired journalist John, who worked for the Clitheroe Advertiser during his career, shares Val's love of singing and they have performed together with several choirs.

With the coronavirus lockdown having a major impact on our town centres and many of our valued advertisers - and consequently the advertising that we receive - we are more reliant than ever on you buying a copy when you pop out for your essential shop or subscribing for delivery.

Our journalists are highly trained by the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) and our content is independently regulated by IPSO to some of the most rigorous standards anywhere in the world. Our content is universally trusted - as all independent research proves.

As Baroness Barran said in a House of Lords debate this week on the importance of journalists: "Not only are they a trusted source of facts, but they will have a role to play in rallying communities and getting the message across about how we can keep ourselves and our families safe, and protect our NHS. Undoubtedly, they have a critical role."

But being your eyes and ears comes at a price. So we need your support more than ever to buy our newspapers during this crisis. In return we will continue to forensically cover the local news - not only the impact of the virus but all the positive and uplifting news happening in these dark days.

We thank all our readers and advertisers for their understanding and support - and we wish YOU all the best in the coming weeks. Keep safe, and follow the Government advice.

Thank you.
