Citheroe Food Festival latest major event to fall victim to COVID-19

Thousands of people were set to descend into Clitheroe in August to enjoy the event which features a feast of delicious food, drink and entertainment, however, Ribble Valley Borough Council took the decision to cancel the 2020 festival as a result of the ongoing crisis with coronavirus (Covid-19).

Coun. Stephen Atkinson, Leader of Ribble Valley Borough Council, stated: “The event takes a substantial amount of council staff time to plan and stage. Those same staff are currently working hard to help our many residents at this time deal with the issues arising from the consequences of the pandemic, and given the uncertainty as to when the government will provide an all clear for major public gatherings, the decision to cancel has been taken. Alternatives will be considered when the country has recovered from the effects of Covid-19.”

The event normally attracts thousands of people who travel from far and wide. More than 100 stallholders pack out Castle Street, the town's market and surrounding streets. A huge array of wonderful foods, from organic meat and dairy produce made from traditional Lancashire breeds to handmade pies and pastries and a feast of fruit and vegetables packed with authentic, home-grown flavours, is on offer to foodies eager to sample a feast of riches on."
