Burnley Council is urging residents not to visit the contact centre unless absolutely necessary.

People are being encouraged to use online services, or contact the council by email or phone, wherever possible.

The contact centre in Parker Lane is currently experiencing around 10 visitors an hour

A Burnley Council spokesman said: "10 visitors an hour doesn't sound much but most of those visits were not necessary and clearly some people are not following Government guidelines not to go out unless it is essential.

"It is vital that everyone follows the guidance to stay safe and stay at home.

"We are putting further measures in place at the contact centre to ensure the number of people allowed inside at any one time is limited and social distancing rules are followed."
