The school's new principal, Dr Richard Robson, who took over the reins from Mrs Lynne Horner, said one of his first goals is to help young people with academic potential to benefit from a first-class education at the independent school.

The Blackburn-based school has just unveiled the scholarship details - which offers to subsidise 50-100% of the fees for those youngsters within the catchment area who achieve seven 7s or above at GCSE.

Dr Robson said: “The school offers an unrivalled holistic experience, and we want to see more bright youngsters take full advantage of studying at Westholme’s INSPIRED Sixth Form centre.

“We want to encourage more students within our community to join our INSPIRED Sixth Form – so by potentially covering all of their further education fees we can reach those who may not have considered private education before.”

The scholarship programme will also be available to existing pupils – meaning that around a third of the current Year 11 will qualify.

Dr Robson added: “The INSPIRED Sixth Form is the culmination of a Westholme education and we want to inspire students with our innovative Leadership programme.

“Our achievement levels are high and we are looking to support more young people with potential. As part of the application process, we will also consider extra-curricular interests such as sport, music, and drama as we believe these interests help to create an all-round individual, fit for the 21st century workplace.

“Westholme School is small enough to know every child, but big enough to compete for success in national competitions. It’s not just the number of students in a class that makes us very different to other schools, it’s also the unrivalled, personalised 1:1 support. We want to ensure we continue to be the school of choice in Lancashire.”
