A deputy head at The Holllins Technology Centre, Julie Turner, 52, this year graduated from Edge Hill University with her ‘excellent’ (according to tutor, Paul Spencer) research focusing on teachers’ professional development.

Inspired by her children, Mollie, 23, who achieved a first in Design Crafts from DeMontfort University in Leicester, and Lewis, 20, who is in his third year of a degree in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science at Birmingham University, Julie’s dissertation included 117 pages of findings and was called ‘testimony to [her] commitment’ by Professor Spencer.

“To be able to develop, teach and support people of all ages and backgrounds is a privilege,” said Julie, who has taught for 23 years. “There’s never a dull moment and you need lots of energy, empathy, and patience.”

Julie lives on Cartmel Drive with her husband Steve and her children, and previously attended Hatfield Polytechnic, where she studied Linguistics and German, graduating in 1985.
